How to Presave a Song on Spotify and Apple Music

A presave is the streaming version of a preorder. You click an artist's presave link before a song comes out, connect your Spotify or Apple Music account once, and the song lands in your library automatically the moment it releases. No reminder needed, no searching for it on release day.

Here's how it works. The artist shares a presave link ahead of the release. The link asks you to log in to your streaming service and approve access, which is what lets it add the song to your library at midnight on release day. That's it. You can revoke the access any time afterward in your account settings, and the song stays saved.

Why do artists push presaves so hard? Because streaming algorithms watch what happens in the first hours of a release. A wave of day-one saves and streams tells Spotify and Apple Music that people were waiting for the song, which makes the algorithm more likely to push it into personalized and algorithmic playlists. For an independent artist without a label's marketing budget, presaves are one of the few levers that genuinely moves that needle.

For my releases, the presave link goes up on this site before every drop, featured right at the top of the homepage, and gets posted on Instagram and TikTok. The newest single, Fucked Up With The Flu, went through exactly that cycle and is out now. When the next release is announced, the presave will be in the same spot.
